정부기관이 아닌 많은 기관 단체들이 주는 장학금은 신분을 보지 않기때문에 불법체류 학생들이라도 얼마든지 받을 가능성이 있다.
일단 가장 먼저 알아볼 곳은 진학하려는 학교의 재정보조 담당부서 (Financial Aid Office). 그곳에 연락해 학교에서 주는 장학금에 대해 알아볼 것을 권한다.
